Large all-pay auctions with IPV bidders

چکیده
This note analyzes di¤erent types of all-pay auctions when the number of bidders becomes large. We compute the distributions of the highest bids for the rst-price all pay auction and we show that the expected payment made by the winning bidder converges to half of the total payments. In the second-price all-pay auction (the war of attrition), the highest bid amounts to about 35.5 % of the total revenues. We also compute the payments for all-pay auctions with multiple prizes.

All-pay Auctions with Affiliated Values
This paper analyzes all-pay auctions where the bidders have affiliated values for the object for sale and where the signals take binary values. Since signals are correlated, high signals indicate a high degree of competition in the auction and since even losing bidders must pay their bid, non-monotonic equilibria arise. We show that the game has a unique symmetric equilibrium, and that whenever...
متن کاملReserve prices in all-pay auctions with complete information
We introduce reserve prices in the literature concerning all-pay auctions with complete information, and reconsider the case for the so-called Exclusion Principle (namely, the fact that the seller may find it in her best interest to exclude the bidders with the largest willingness to pay for the prize). We show that a version of it extends to our setting. However, we also show that the Exclusio...
متن کاملHow (Not) to Raise Money
We show that standard winner-pay auctions are inept fund-raising mechanisms because of the positive externality bidders forgo if they top another’s high bid. Revenues are suppressed as a result and remain finite even when bidders value a dollar donated the same as a dollar kept. This problem does not occur in lotteries and all-pay auctions, where bidders pay irrespective of whether they win. We...
متن کاملCross and Double Cross: Comparative Statics in First Price and All Pay Auctions
This paper analyses comparative statics for first price auctions and all pay auctions with independent private values. In all pay auctions, bidders with low values will respond to a stochastically higher (in the sense of likelihood ratio dominance) distribution of types by playing less aggressively while high value bidders bid more. In the first price auction, a similar change results in all ty...
متن کاملAll-Pay-All Auctions
We consider a class of auctions in which bidders receive (asymmetric) shares of the amount of money raised. Examples include corporate takeovers when potential acquirers have “toeholds” and auctions used to raise money for a public good. We show that the optimal selling mechanism in these cases is a simple “all-pay-all” auction in which all bidders pay a weighted sum of all bids. When bidders r...
